Crafty Fox Spring Market (24th & 25th March, 11am –
5pm)
It will
be a random blast from the past setting up a stall in the Dogstar after
spending many a late night (and early morning) there in previous years. Brixton
has gone through massive changes since I first moved to the area in 2004 and
it's been really exciting to see the evolution. I've always loved the vibe and I'm really pleased
to see that so far, the fantastic reinvention of the indoor market (sorry...
Brixton Village) seems to be living alongside the hustle and bustle of the
stalls that have been there for years. You can still find all sorts of stuff from
yams to specialist hair products - and I'm sure if we tried hard enough, even a
kitchen sink! Long may that continue.
Nails are
the second fastest growing industry in the UK (after life coaching btw) - who'd
have funk it! Not me when, at the age of
13, I used to wear google eyes on my nails – that got me some pretty dodgy
looks. I've always thought nail colour and art was a really easy way
to play around with fashion, to be creative - to add a splash of colour.
For me,
every nail is a blank canvas waiting to be licked with whatever you fancy - and
if you change your mind, no biggy - just re-do it or cover it up with another
delicious glossy colour. It's a great way to experiment and have some
fun - and it's cheap! From the most beautiful simple nude gloss, to a pretty polka,
to some crazy neon spots and stripes - whatever you fancy!
I've
always done nail art on myself and friends, but it's only something I've
recently started doing on other people. I work full-time so I'm just doing
the odd project or individual requests at the moment, but it's been brilliant
to work with Emma of Boom Nails who is a full time freelance nail artist. She
is fantastically talented and generally a top lady so it's inspiring to
have someone to share ideas and scheme business ideas with - watch this space
for new projects!
I look
forward to painting your nails crafty foxers and in the meantime
